Then and Now, Always Sky

Do you remember those nights we spent outside,
cold concrete underneath,
and skies stretched endlessly above-
always shivering and
not wanting to go inside
and shut out the sky
or the night
or the possibility
of what might be confessed
in the next moment.

It has been a long time
since I thought about that sky
or those nights.

The other night,
I grabbed my son, and held him,
and pointed his eyes toward that same sky
we used to look at.
We found Orion and the Big Dipper and
for just a moment
the world felt limitless
again.
