I was thinking it is a shame that that we have lost our connection
to plants and their uses.
How, in the past, there were people who could harvest cures for ailments.
They knew the secret properties that these plants possessed,
and they used them.
They called them midwives
when they eased the pain of labor and brought children into the world.
They called them grandmothers
when they brewed teas that cured fevers. They called them witches
when they saw their power.
Our daughters are counting on us
to learn the old ways.
Our mothers were the ones who gave us the freedom we have.
With that freedom
we should be growing gardens
and reminding them
of where they came from
and who brought them here.
