Offering His Spoon to the Moon

Tonight, during dinner, my young son
offered his spoon to the moon.
I know what you are thinking,
the way that I seem to be searching for a simple rhyme
or making up something that never happened
(a tendency poets have)
but it’s true – he looked out the window perplexed,
frowned, held his spoon and said here.
And this next bit seems like a lie too, but it isn’t.
The moon didn’t need it
because it was full.

  1. Charming! I believe you. And J.

  2. This is still my favorite – as for many of us who have raised boys, the simplicity of it all, their quiet simplicity, warms the heart.
