Footprints in the Snow

You both left this morning,
walking in the snow,
and it was so hard to see your footprints,
knowing mine were not there.

I know that we cannot always be together-
and normally my footprints are dusted over
before the two of you even wake,
but today, watching the snow fill in what was
the last thing I saw of you,
my impulse was to go out, bare foot,
and try to shelter the trail you left
so that you both would know how to get home.

  1. YOU have the best heart!

  2. Thank you. I have really great people to love.

  3. Quite like the lingering sense of pain and longing in this one. And then there is a sapling of hope.
