Someday, I want to be the person I am pretending to be.
Dripping with kindness and altruism-
the smile I wear genuine.
But I’m not.
You are though.
You are always assuming the best of those around you.
The pain you feel for others
is as real as that truth in your eyes.
One day, maybe,
I can think of the world outside of myself.
Right now I think of you-
teaching our child to be more like you
than he is like me.
Perhaps, bringing him into the world
is the best I can do to be good.
