It was no wonder that it fell.
You had been standing at the edge of the universe,
holding our world together for so long,
you had to be tired.
But none of us saw it coming.
I went out in the rain that morning
and kissed you goodbye
something not feeling quite right,
pieces of sky falling,
as I walked away from you.
I ran through a world cascading around me
to see you there.
“I’m tired,” you said.
“I know,” I said.
Together
we walked home,
leaving the sky
on the ground
behind us.
