Since when?
You asked me the other day
and I wanted to know,
more specifically, about when.
I want when to be a time and place
as real as the table where we are sitting
talking about changes-
changes I cannot and do not
want to make.
And then we, you and I,
could find a way to get back.
It would be so easy-
we could get into a car and drive to when.
When life was not complicated.
When time was not short.
When we were young and beautiful.
So, since when? That is when.
I asked him, “…what do we need to fix this?” He said, exasperated, “a time-machine…” I wish we could just drive there, too.
Amen. You’re responding in poetry!
