False Summer

I went through the entire day
and did not see the light break through
the coverage of clouds.

I know it is there,
somewhere,
but without its light,
the world felt very cold
on this June afternoon.

You said that
just knowing the sun is there
is a sign of my optimism.

I have to disagree-
I knew there was light
but the warmth was absolutely absent
and it is with that thought
that I wrap myself up tonight.
