Snowy Morning

The moment my daughter, Eliza,
greeted the cold morning
she ran through the snow.
With her small feet
she made two overlapping circles-
an expression of her infinite joy
at running on that crisp, bright, morning.

She giggled and sang
and held her arms out wide
and she stood at the center
of the Venn diagram she had made.
I knew that what she was mapping
was the perfect morning-
one part the wonder of childhood,
one part the transformation of the world wrapped in snow-
and where they met in the middle,
where she stood,
was my whole heart.

Complete and happy and perfect-
like the circles
like her.
